Ali Khan
Principal Investigator
AboutI am a Scientist at the Robarts Research Institute, Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics at Western University, and Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Computational Neuroimaging. I obtained my PhD from Simon Fraser University and joined Western University in 2011 as a post-doctoral fellow. My research is focussed on the development of intelligent image processing and analysis technologies, and their application in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. |
Co-Investigator
Corey BaronAboutCorey Baron is Canada Research Chair in Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Co-Director of the Robarts Imaging Laboratories. He is an expert in the development and application of advanced diffusion MRI approaches that provide improved specificity to various microstructural features compared to standard diffusion MRI. He has adapted novel diffusion MRI approaches to high throughput studies in mice, along with in vivo and ex vivo protocols in marmosets. |
Co-Investigator
Marco PradoAboutMarco Prado is Canada Research Chair in Neurochemistry of Dementia and Co-Director of the Mouse Translational Research Accelerator Platform (MouseTRAP) and the Western Advanced Microscopy Core. His research area is molecular neurodegeneration, which includes generation and characterization of new mouse models. He has extensive experience in light microscopy, including confocal and super resolution microscopy. He adapted the current protocols used for lightsheet microscopy at Western with Kelly Summers. |
Co-investigators
Co-Investigator
Ravi MenonAboutRavi Menon is Canada Research Chair in Functional and Molecular Imaging and Principal Investigator and Co-Scientific Director of BrainsCAN, and the Scientific Director of the Centre for Functional and Imaging Mapping. His research spans mouse, to marmoset, to human, and is an expert in functional magnetic resonance imaging at ultra-high fields. |
Co-Investigator
Taylor SchmitzAboutTaylor Schmitz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology & Pharmacology at Western University. His research focuses on developing an integrated understanding of the organization, function and age-related vulnerability of the cholinergic system, and he has been using the lightsheet to investigate Abeta in mouse models of AD. |
Co-Investigator
Stefan EverlingAboutStefan Everling is Western Research Chair in Neurocognition, and his research area focuses on the neural basis of social cognition and cognitive control in primates, and he is a world leader in marmoset neuroimaging. |
Co-Investigator
Lisa SaksidaAboutLisa Saksida is Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Translational Cognitive Neuroscience, and co-directs BrainsCAN with Menon and MouseTRAP with Prado. She and co-I Bussey have pioneered technology for touchscreen cognition in mice that is included in the demonstration project, and complementary to the platform itself. |
Co-Investigator
|
Co-Investigator
Tim BusseyAboutTimothy Bussey is Western Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience, and co-leads the MouseBytes platform, an open data portal for mouse touchscreen cognition. He will lend expertise in this area to the design of the MIND portal and integration with cognitive datasets. |
Co-Investigator
Robyn KleinAboutRobyn Klein is Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Western University, and Canada Excellence Research Chair in Neuroimmunology & Neurovirology. She joined Western in March 2024, and has $8M in direct funds through the CERC program to build her research program in neuroimmunology and neuroinfectious diseases, which will involve preclinical animal models and microscopy. |
Collaborators
Collaborator
Maged GoubranAboutMaged Goubran (Assistant Professor, University of Toronto) is Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Neuroscience and has pioneered approaches for connectivity using lightsheet microscopy and MRI. He will consult with us on integrating novel analytics into the platform. |
Collaborator
Wataru InoueAboutWataru Inoue (Associate Professor, Western University) is investigating cell-type-specific afferent and efferent connectivity involved in stress responses, with a focus on the top-down regulation of hypothalamic stress circuits. He will provide guidance on using AAV viral vectors and transgenic mouse models to expresses fluorescent and functional (DREADDs and optogenetics) proteins to achieve precise, cell-type-specific circuit mapping, and on translating these techniques to marmoset models. |
Collaborator
Mallar ChakravartyAboutMallar Chakravarty (Professor, McGill University) is Director of the Brain Imaging Centre at the Douglas Research Centre, and leads the Computational Brain Anatomy Laboratory, which conducts translational neuroscientific research in animals and humans. His group has developed the RABIES pipeline for rodent fMRI processing and analysis and will consult with us on including it for use in this platform. |
